First learn to swim and then choose a sport… logical after all! Or not….

Also regularly with your hands in the hair: choices, choices, choices…

As a parent you regularly face all kinds of dilemmas and probably also sometimes with your hands in the hair, because of all the questions that arise. Especially if there are also all kinds of waiting lists before your child can actually participate in something, such as at the playgroup, school or swimming with Lifeguard Course.

Learning to swim is very important for a parent. Because almost every day you come into a situation where your child could come into contact with water. (No matter how deep and big this water is). And because kids can do unexpected things, I think it's so comforting to know that your monkey head could save itself if it accidentally ended up in the water.

But when do you start learning to swim? As a parent, can you already prepare children for swimming lessons? At what age is swimming lessons allowed? When does your child need to be in possession of a swimming diploma? I will try to answer all these questions as best and clear as possible!

What can and dare I do with my own body?

It sounds quite logical now, doesn't it? First you have to learn to fall and get up in daily life, so that you then also dare to go into the water, then experience it and learn how you can do this best. To dare to jump into the water, you need the 'jump' skill. Shouldn't you first dare and learn to jump? To stay afloat in the water you need control over your body, you need to know exactly how to adjust your own body if you get out of balance. And there you have another basic skill, namely balancing.

By practicing and repeating these skills, you gain confidence in your own abilities and your monkey head discovers what he can and dares with his own body!

To summarize briefly: as a child you already have to master quite a few skills, to literally and figuratively feel like a fish in water. Learning how to walk, fall, get up, jump and balance properly is the best basis for learning to swim. Anne beautifully explains in her blog which motor developments a toddler, toddler, preschooler and primary school child go through. At Monkey Moves we offer every lesson all kinds of activities, in which all these skills are practiced, and there is a course ready, where, in addition to climbing and clambering, various basic skills also come back in play.

Body awareness and body focus are also skills that are covered in almost every class, especially in toddler and preschool classes. It is therefore extremely important that every child is given the opportunity at his own pace and level to experience and learn what he can do with his own body.

As soon as your toddler is full of self-confidence, on a social, mental and motor level, he is ready for swimming lessons

Conclusion: getting acquainted with water at an early age and learning to move properly from an early age are the perfect basis for your monkey head, to get your swimming diploma confidently, with pleasure and in a successful way.

So around the age of 1.5 start with the toddler gym of Monkey Moves until he is about 3 years old.

Read Kirsten's blog if you are not yet convinced that you can just come and swing along with your 1,5 year old in the jungle of Monkey Moves.

Then about a year of toddler gym and it is already time to go to school! In the meantime, in the kindergarten he learns increasingly specific skills of the 11 popular sports and trusts in his own abilities, without mom and dad.

As soon as your toddler is bursting with self-confidence, socially, mentally and motorically, he is ready for swimming lessons.
